Still tractor hunting for my cousin, for use with the
Arps (?) tracks he bought last spring. Ran across a
prior 4000/5-speed that looks fairly decent, but it
has turf tires. They are about useless in our clay,
unless it's bone dry. But if they'd work OK in the
tracks, maybe it would be worth a closer look.
Anybody ever run turfs in tracks?

I have never ran the turf tires with track and I don't know how the ARPS track compare to the bombardier tracks but the bombardier track have nubs that lay inbetween the lugs on the tires to keep the tire from spinning on the tracks. So because the turf tires lugs aren't raised enough to catch the nubs they may cause the tire to slip on the track. This is just a thought and I have not tested it.

I'm not sure my cousin's tracks are Arps, they may be Bombardier...at any rate, they do have the nubs for the lugs to catch. That was my line of thought also...turfs may just slip when you really need it to pull.

I seriously doubt the tracks will be useful with turf tires. I have arps tracks on a few tractors (with ag tires). You will definitely get slippage between track and tire without the tire chevrons interlocking with the track cleats... especially when your slick clay soil gets in the tread. Can even happen with ag tires if not adjusted properly.
Might be worth checking out the tractor anyway as maybe you can get cheap used ag tires. Even tires with 50 percent tread will be good enough, and far better than new turf tires, for operating the tracks.
