With Highway department specification tires and wheel sizes they sure look like "lowboys" But as Delta Red points out a utility most likely. Jim

Grew up in IH Dealership as Dad was service mgr there all his working life.Rememeber when 404 Farmalls and Internationals came out. Dealership was farm Dealer so did not see many yellow ones. Don't remember 404 Lo Boy.

That being said I pulled out 1972 OFFICAL GUIDE published by National Farm & Power Equipment Association.
and what do I find but 404 LO-BOY INTERNATIONAL !.Listed with 8.3-24 rear tires and 5.90-15 front tires. No mention of adjustable front and rear axle like the Ag International 404.I assume the LO-BOY model came in yellow ?

Never saw one.Picture would be appreciated.

Goes to show that I can still learn something new every day ! Only problem, at age 72, is remembering what I learned new ! ☺ ☺

Bill

Okay, so we have now determined there is actually a Lo-Boy version, but other than wheel and tire size, is there any difference from a standard utility version? I have a 240U which is not much different from a 404U and can't see much difference. Is the spindle/knuckle assembly shorter than a Utility? There is a "high utility" version of a 240U (which I have never seen pictures of, but parts are in the book) I believe with a taller than standard knuckle, but was the LO-Boy 404 a shorter than standard?

Along with the Cub line there were Lo-Boy versions available for the 404, 2404. 424, 2424, 444, and 2444 models.

You have a real 404 Lo-Boy there. The Lo-Boy version of that chassis on the 404 and 2404 had very few changes from the regular UTILITY version chassis. Most 404/2404 Utilities have 16" front tires and 28" rear tires. The Lo-Boy version had 15" front and dual 24" rears or 10" fronts with 16" balloon rears. Your photo of the dual rear tire 404LB is exactly as that tractor was offered from the factory. The 404LB and 2404LB both had metal emblems with the LO-BOY as a decal added to the base plate emblem. You will find a photo of my 2404LB in the Tractor Photo section of this site. Most all 2404 LB"s had short curved heavy cast rear fenders like you would find on a Super A-140. You have the real deal here. Very nice find.

Thank You to everybody for the help and I should have my new toy home this next week. It"s a bareback with no 3-point and missing only the one side panel that you can see in the picture. Thanks again to all your help.
