Anyone have a ferguson 12AO40 plow.
It's a two plow slat wing plow.

Was thinking on buying one to break my gardens.
I wanted a 14" or 16" plow.

I assume by it being 12AO40 that it is a 12" plow.

Does anyone know for sure on the size?

I believe the AO-40 plow was made from 1943/'47 the tag should say either dearborn or detroit. I have the 14AO-40 which is a 14" so I assume the 12AO-40 is a 12"

What kind of soil do you have that your passing on the 12? What kind of tractor are you pulling the plow with?

I use an 8-inch moldboard plow on my garden. A 12-inch should plow fine. Hal

Here's a picture of the plow and garden tractor. I bought a Viking walk behind in 1960 for $15.00
I kept the plow when I sold the Viking. Hal

Pulling plow with a 1957, to35 ferguson.
Problem, I trying to solve is the mf62 12" plows I have choke up so bad on garden debris.

I was looking for a larger plow with more throat height, at least that was my plan.

What I want is a set of 2x16" plows, I have found both a set of John Deere and IH plows in this size.

During the winter months I will find a set of plows, however a tiller would be great, but outside of my garden budget.

We had the same problem with a field that hadn't been worked in 40 year. We were using a 2 bottom 14" dearborn and it keep jammimg up inbtween the moldboards. Tried with coulters and without them and still jammed up with debri. A guy down the road said I get my JD with the 2 bottom and show you boys how it's done. It was the same, keep jammimg up. We finnally bought up my friends 1 bottom 16" and everything went smooth. Nice roll over with no flop back. Sure it took a lot longer but worked great.
Another guy told me we should have disc the field before plowing. Will try this next spring then see if the 2 bottom works better.

I just finished plowing a 10 acre garden with a dearborne 2-14 plow. The viney trash plugs it but it works good about 90% of the time. They plug worse if you plow too deep. I brush hog the whole thing before I start. My disc seems too light to really cut the heavy trash up.

Over the years I have tried bushhoging the grass, disking the grass and just leaving the corn and grass standing.

My best effort plowing under the garden debris was with a double ford 16" trip plow.

Myself I DO NOT like either a 14" or 16" plow, have had both, Have plowed hundreds of acres of corn stalks with 12" plows ingluding a Ford sold by Ferguson in 1944 without those problems. If you run Yetter coulters instead of the factory coulters it is like night and day different in getting the trash to go. We believed in chopping the stalks.
