Was told yesterday about this Dozer that belongs to a friend of mine widowed Aunt. It is only about 2.5 miles from my house. It is an International (about the size of an AC D-3) and I was told it was started this summer sometime (I wonder the old man died about 3-4 yrs ago) but they couldnt figure how to make it move. I cked it out and it is a bit rough the old man used it alot to build roads etc.. The old small CAT he had with 4 in 1 bucket was cut up for scrap and I do not want this to go to scrap it has a 6 way blade and a ripper in the rear. It was an old forest service Dept of Agriculture unit. found a stamped number on the rear housing 9279. Check it out guys and bless me with some info. year, what I could offer, you know stuff like that. Thanks for any and all your help.

It looks like a T-5/T-340. It might even be a model 500.

TD 340 IH Do yourself a favor and walk away unless you have deep pockets. Little old things were really not that bad but seems like there is always something wrong with them but again part of that probably came from folks trying too do more than they were designed to do. Worked on a lot of them.. Is it gas or diesel. Three cylinder motor or 4? Does it have a reverser )lever on left side)?

I would be a bit loathsome to walk away from a 6 way blade properly priced. Even if the rest of the machine is scrap value. I recently saw a $1250 runner D-2 crawler begging for a blade.
1+1= a useable machine cheap enough. No?

Might be a T340A with the 5 rollers. At least early 340s had 4 rollers, I think. I get great use out of mine, but bottom parts are impossible to find.

Well I believe it is a TD 340 (after research I found a photo not going to go that far fixing it up), it is a 4 cyl Diesel and has 5 rollers on the bottom (1962), unknown if it has a reverser or T/A (torque amplifier)it is a 5 speed. The widowed lady told me to take it for $500 Others have taken her to the cleaners and never paid her as they promised (LOSERS) there are extra parts too she said unk where but they are around, she is in a nursing home right now. it has a 6 way inside blade and the cylindar shafts look very shiny. Dont know if it starts like I was told, but they said it doesnt move forward or backward. Maybe not enough Hyd fluid in T/A? or maybe the tracks are stuck to the sprockets or rollers or what ever i do not know, any suggestions. be welcomed to use it around the property to clean out the stock pond and fill in arroyos(the washes). Anyway thanks for all your help and suggestions.

t340a for sure. I restored one a few years back I found in a junkyard. only one side of mine would pull, it took some time. ended up with a lot of money in it, but its brand new from tracks to muffler, radiator to pto(I added pto from a tractor). we use it quite often on the farm. there are several things that will keep it from moving. some are simple and others are terrible. if it was driven to that spot, its simple. if it was dragged to there, then can be difficult. I have complete set of books and can work you through anything. this machine has five rollers and is the later "a" as others said. it needs new rails (track chain). I can tell this from the position of front idler slides as they are all the way forward. the rock guards will help keep the loose track on somewhat. when looking for new chain, be careful the number of links. the t340a has one more link than the t340.parts are hard to get but it can all be made or repaired. engine block is specific to that model, but internal parts are same as 340 tractor and readily available. it has a reverser because I don't see the release latch on top of that lever. it has had a root rake on blade I think because those brackets sticking out the front are like some ive seen. check hydro for water as these machines have been known to let rain in if outside for a long time. look for a 1/2 inch pipe plug sticking out top of transmission cover between your feet. dipstick should be attacked to bottom of that plug. if you buy this for parts, im interested in the reverser. if you need more info, send email with phone and ill give you a call. ashley

WOW sounds like you have alot of knowledge on this machine can you share some with me? what is the best proceedure to start it? I did go up there Sun and opened up the lines, tank to filter, filter to pump, pump to injectors, fuel flowing and tighten all connections, two charged batteries cranked and cranked and not a fire but black smoke out the exhaust. pulled out the glow plugs(looked good but how U tell if bad?)and cranked, did have fuel spitting out the plug holes. batteries went low so I quit. One response said the timing of the injector pump was off so I might try marking it then moving it CW or CCW a bit at a time to see if it will fire up. There is a block heater on it but it has no plug looks like a half moon w 3 pins, wondering if I should rig it up to work and plug it into a generator? Maybe you could email me a copy of the starting and timing proceedure and of the dash so I could know what all the knobs are(everything faded/unreadable). Does the throttle lever kill the engine? Does the key kill the engine (if i can get it running)? Anyway next day to work on it is WED when I am off so all the info between now and then is appreciated. My number is 505-470-4638 thanks for all your help. OH BTW it is S#TD-9086 & makes it a 1965

UPDATE:!! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Went up to the mtn to try to get this dozer started. Thanks to some info from Pork (here on the crawler section) I checked the timing on the injector pump bled fuel lines again and Kept trying and woopie it started by golly. Let it run for about 10 minutes or so, It was really smokey for a while but quit and clear exhaust. Throttle gets stuck at midpoint and wants to just quit so got to be quick at adjusting the throttle. Well I put it in Fwd and 1st and it moved, Rev and Yes, Yes it is moving you guys. The Reverser works, the tranny seems to work, The Hyd have fluid level but they move slowly and sounds like it is low on Hyd so maybe it is a filter, it rolls but the right side seems slower than the left side so it tends to drift to the right on its own, the brakes work good and that is the reason that it wouldnt move before Revsr in Neutral, and brakes applied with lock on. Boy was I happy. Shut it off and then restarted right up. Didnt want to leave it running with no one there someone could of got hurt so I shut it off and Ran home and got the trailer to take it home. Got back and the darn thing would not start again. Finally it did but Boy did we have a heck of a time getting it up on the trailer. But yes it is home and I can work on it at my pace. I know I will have many more question to ask so you will be hearing from me. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
