got a new fuel gauge from deere for the 2510, part number RE54427. the directions say for positive ground only, but the tractor is negative ground with an alternator. parts guy looked into it and said it should be ok. question is do I put the ground wire on the positive or negative terminal of the gauge? also does any one know the ohm range of this gauge, the sender seems to be a 0 - 30 ohm unit?

thanks

These seem to create a lot of confusion. More recent gauges seem to come in a plastic case, and offer positive or negative ground. Formerly they were grounded through their metal case/dash/etc. and you had no choice. And of course the big confusion is with the double 12V system with one batt. grounded pos. and one neg.
Any component should agree with the tractor system- in other words- hook yours up for neg. ground.

Tim, will that gauge work with a 0 to 30 ohm sender? does it look original?

It's a new style replacement from Deere, they are a bit thicker than originals so they don't fit as nice,, that's what I have been using..

Get a hold of Jerry at Evergreen Restoration, 715-635-8629.
He has gauges that fit without modifying the dash or clamps.
He has gauges for both, positive and negative ground.

I may give him a try too,, I don't like to deal with the larger gauge that I get from Deere but they do work...and I have got better at making them fit...for a long time Deere dealers were giving us the wrong gauges for this application,, I fried several of them till I got it straightened out..
