Finally got around to dropping the 1955 off to the repair shop yesterday to do the PTO. Hate to spend the money right now but I really need the darned thing working this year. Mechanic called today. Said the brake went out. Some rivets ripped out and craked the brake hub. Gonna hual the parts book up there with me tomorrow morning and we will make the list and get to it. I believe it was my own fault. If I remember correctly I forgot to let the PTO free wheel on shut down of a brush hog a couple of times. I expect that was what screwed it up. Oh well..........

Hmmmm. Brake in my 1955 PTO and the parts book ain't the same. The parts book is factory Oliver, too. Seems the PTO brake in my 1955 is the same as the 2-105. The tractor PTO has never been apart before, so it was factory installed. I expect the factory was out of the 1955 brakes and tossed in a 2-105 brake cause they had em on hand? My 1955 is towards the end of the production run. Lotta crap going on inside the company about that time period.

Don: A lot of changes were made to those PTO units between the introduction of the 55 series and the end of production of that series.

That explains it. Thanks.

Used to work in an auto parts store. Running part changes in a production year used to drive us nuts trying to match the right parts. Don't know why I thought tractors should be any different.
