Hello. I have a powershift 4020 with a 158 loader. I keep having trouble with the front rims cracking from packing hay around all the time. I keep checking the lugs and they usually stay pretty tight. These are 6 bolt rims. Seems I saw somwhere a plate that could be bolted on the rims for extra support. Any ideas or suggestions? I can"t find much on this or anything else on the internet, and can"t afford to up grade to a 40 series front axle. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

There are wheels that have a flat center that is thicker. Also you might consider 8 bolt hubs and rims.

Baum hydraulics makes a plate to repair broken out rims. I have used several- they work well.

You can find wheel rings in the 6600 and 7700 parts book for 6 and 8 boly patterns

I have seen what they called aircraft rims that are one flat solid circle probably twice as thick as regular[will need longer bolts] and they are welded solidly with no gaps to outer rims similar to factory dual wheels versus after market. The 158 is enough longer that it stresses the stock front end and wheels. The spindles, wheels, and knees break even when not abused.

When I put a heavy front end on my 4010 from Abilene Machine it came with heavy duty rims. I see that they sell just the rims by themselves as well. I'll testify to the fact that they are heavy that's for sure.

You have to watch turning short and fast with the bale on the front. It is the side stress that cracks the rims.

What size tires are you running? Running 16" or even 18" rims with the larger rolling diamiter takes a lot of stress off both the spindles and rims.

You will need the lug bolts that go with them,, they are not a tapered lug stud like you have been using.. We used them on our 4020 with 158 loader for years with good luck.
