With 55 acres of first cutting hay still standing,I really didn't need this. You sure hate to complain about big rains in July, but I'm ready to just throw up my hands.
I suppose it could have been worse. There was a possible tornado on the south side of Grand Rapids with no watches or warnings.
The only damage I had was woman made. A guy up the road came pounding on the door at midnight and said somebody had run through a five strand fence and out in to a pasture with cattle in it. So I was out there in the worst of it fixing that good enough to keep cattle from running off. I've got to get out there and finish putting that back right.

I'm real glad now that I worked yesterday hauling bales off that one 20 acre field. I still have 84 in two other fields, but I don't think I'll dare go out there for a few days at least.
The feedlots are a slop hole but I don't have anyplace to go with manure until I get that last hay cut. Those are some grassier stands and some manure spread thin won't hurt those. There'll only be one more cutting on those and there's time for the manure to settle down and decay some out there.
Gawd! Farming is SO much fun sometimes.

5 1/2 inches in a couple hours overnight. Roads flooded, potholes in fields flooded. A dry swamp overflowing. Septic system flowed backwards sending gasses back through trap in bathtub. Never had that one happen before.
Guess I won"t be cutting hay this morning!

Ray,
I dunno, but if you get more rain and that gauge gets heavier you might consider pounding in more nails to hold it up...might need even bigger nails!

Well, Marc ran an old barn cleaner paddle through the left rear tire on the 1850 last night. Might as well have the tire guys fix the flats on the dump trailor while they are here. BOTH inside duals are flat. That makes 3 visits for the tire guys in three weeks.

4.5 inches over by Ashley. We are truly in hell. Lot of water everywhere. Went from looking ok around here the last few days to being completely ruined for a bunch of us. Makes a guy wonder why we live in this hell hole. The place is telling us it wants to go back to being the swamp and lake that it was before.

Where in Michigan Ray? Kalkaska only got .3 last night. Could have used a little more, but no where near 5.5".

According to a post down below the Chinese are buying farms. I asked for a phone number. Maybe we can sell them some of this swamp land and go where it's more civilized.
To heck with exporting liberalism, just sell them a farm, that'll take the wind out of their sails!

Well I feel for you guys up there. That much rain this time of year is just too much, trying to make hay between mud holes is no fun.
We have had it pretty nice down here in SE Ohio. Even so I fought the tuff hay all weekend to the point I wondered why I was even trying. Sun totally went away after noon yesterday, even sprinkled a few drops, but I didn't give up. The second cutting hay was completely cured out and ready to bale, so at the last minute we manage to get it baled and then stacked it all on edge crisscross with fans going and on all my wagons and trailers. We have a nice breeze this morning and no humidity, and it seems to be drying out very nicely.
The good news is we saved all the leaves and it's real pretty right now. Bales are loose and will be on the light side, but that's better than junk hay.

Randy, my rain gauge looks just like yours! Mine used to nicely stick in the ground by the pond but the stupid dog got his lead tangled up in it and swmbo ripped on the lead and broke the plastic on the bottom that held the gauge up and now I'm going to have to do something like you did with bent nails or duct tape or wire or something! Grrrrr..
