I've trying to paint the sheet metal on a 400 and the case IH paint isn't spraying on very well. It seems to spray in blobs instead of a smooth mist. I use about an eight thinner (approximatey), and a little less than that in thinner.I'm using a help gun, and I've played with the settings too. Is there a simple answer to this? It's humid this week here, and hot and sunny and I'm painting outdoors

Can you repair the thinner issue in the middle of your post? First thought is air flow to assure atomization, then thinner mix to allow transfer without blobbing as it hits. Jim

You should mix 8-4-1 or 8-2-1, paint, thinner, hardener.

Sorry, what I meant to say was I use less hardener than thinner. If it comes out of the gun in small blobs should I add more thinner? It has been drying really fast in between coats

Are you using compatible ingredients?

Try some without the hardener. Personally I would rather wait the 30 days for the paint to cure, than risk my lungs on the hardener anyway.

Yes, it is all case ih (Valspar). The hardener is also made by Valspar, but I bought it at John Deere. The paint comes out in little blobs, and it almost looks like the fresh coat has pinholes where the blobs don't quite fill in. if I put the coat of paint on thick enough, then it all fills in, but overall it has that "orangepeel" look.

Are you sure you don't have water in your compressor. It also could be your products are not compatible with each other. Call a paint supply house to confirm compatibility. CIH SELLS paint but they don't KNOW paint. A paint store knows paint.

I just sprayed my hood and gas tank this morning...Omni epoxy primer covered by IH 2150 with hardener. I mixed the paint 8-1-1 with thinner and hardener. I used a sharpe/binks knockoff from an auto parts store, made sure the water filter was working and sprayed at 45-50 lbs pressure. Light coat first, let flash and then good heavy coat(s)... I have always had good luck with the Case IH paint myself... Temps this morning were in the 60"s and 70"s.

Valspar makes different hardeners for different paint mixtures are you sure you are using the correct hardener with your paint? Email or phone John to make sure.
