What year GM cars/trucks had the 10SI in them? What models? Going to the salvage yard tonight to look around and was wondering what years and models GM vehicles used that alt in them. Want to change over one of my farmalls.

1973 through 1987 pickups, and most cars of the same era.

For a tractor conversion, units from a NON AC vehicle are lower amperage and usually for desirable because of wiring size needed and less chance of a slipping belt.

(Yet put out 2 to 3 times what the original generator did.)

I usually go to the parts store and get one for a '75 Nova no air. They are the lowest cost basic 10si's. And they have at least some warranty.

These are too large to use on an H Farmall. The hood won't close. I remember some past discussions recommend using an alternator from a foreign vehicle.

I had one on my H and the hood did close. The generator bracket was flipped over so the arms pointed down instead of up. It was tight but it worked fine.

I did that on an old Clark forklift. It had a generator with the ps pump driven off the back, so the gen had to stay. Found an alternator for some foreign car on the shelf at the auto supply. Don't know what it fit, but it was a tiny thing! Worked great.

The Hitachi alternators really fit better on the H models.
