Hi All, please provide feedback on converting the 6v M to 12v. I see kits on this site for under $150. At the same time, I see electronic ignitions for >$400, and a simple 6v ignition that replaces the points and condensor for 90 bucks. My confusion grows the more parts I look at. If I went with the simple 12v conversion, is it as simple as it sounds to do? Thanks in advance for replies.

I converted my H to 12V many years ago, and if I can do it, you can. Pretty straight forward. Wiring is simple, although I couldn"t advise you any more.

I have converted several to 12V.Never bought a 'kit'.I first completely strip out the old harness. Then I get a one-wire alternator.I build a simple harness.Forget the fancy electronic ignition, dont waste your money. The old point systen will work just fine.Shown is the last one,1953 SuperH.

I just converted my M to 12 volt.

I had the Alt shop build a Delco 10SI and put the smallest pulley they had on it. He told me he set the alt up to make power at 600 RPM or above. it makes 14.7 volts at idle

1 custom mount
1 slightly longer alt belt
1 12V coil with built in resistor
and a simple switch to give power to the coil

my wire harness on the tractor is only two wires
1 from alt to battery +
1 from battery + to switch then to coil.

You can also buy a new 10si from napa for about 60 bucks

Let me know if you need any thing else.
