farmall starter problem

i have a farmall 300 when the starter is engaged it just spins until u turn the key switch several times then i engages does this have something to do with the starter drive . thanks for any help.

It's engaged, and then it engages?

May just need to lube the bendix drive.

My just broke when I let off the starter too soon and it backfired and broke the spring. Mine would never engage

That problem can be caused by a number of things.
Bad teeth on the ring gear
Bad starter drive.
Dirty starter drive.
Weak battery
