I bet that guy was shopping CL or elsewhere for something you would take in trade. He did not have it in his possession.
If you had agreed to trade for it, he would have bought it for $500 etc. and traded it to you.

Spent 11 years working for a car dealership. Kelly blue book is a very poor guideline to use. Most vehicles
sold at private dealer auction bring more than KBB. As stated above condition is everything. Unfortunately
most people have a unit that they think is excellent as described on KBB when actually it is poor to fair
condition. Have no idea what yours is. Good luck with your sale.

Currently have taken the stance of dont care if it sells or not. Guy I've known for about five years asked me tonight if I'd rent to him for about 4 days so he could haul hay. I asked him what it would be worth. Well my insurance is paid for the next 3 months and the license tabs are paid for another year off his. "Rent" so I guess if it sits for the next 11 weeks it dont bother me. Know the guy well enough that he won't break it and if he does he'll fix it. Had the dumb idea that if I do that a couple times a year the truck is "free" for me. I bought the truck with cash so I have no payments to make. For that matter pull insurance off and leave it sit. Truck in question:

A few years back, I checked out a 40's Diamond T truck. The fellow wanted $10,000.
Just cab and chassis, but in good restorable shape. I told him he was a bit out of line.
He said, "But, that's what they're getting in California!!" I said "Well, I guess you better load it up and sell it there. See you around." Seems like some have no realistic ideas of values.
