|
|
I just bought my first red tractor. It's a 1951 Farmall C. I'm hoping to put new cultivators (steketee or kress) on the belly to cultivate 2 acres of diverse vegetables.
Anybody know how front end implements are attached to this tractor to utilize the touch control? It's a wide front end so set up is a bit different than on the tricycles. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

There are two flat 'bosses' on the front of the tractor. There are special bolts that look like lug bolts(3/4 coarse thread) that secure the cultivator. Then there two long rods that reach from the touck control arms to the cultivator. Really quite easy if you have all the parts.Just take a few minutes to look and study, you will figure it out.The wide front will make absolutely no difference, but will just not turn as tight as a narrow will.I run a 4 row belly on an M with wide, fits fine, turning requires some 'jockeying. Easiiest to skip 4 in a pattern so you don't have to turn short.A SC will be the same |

I use my cultivators every summer. The tractor is sitting in the front yard with the upper half of the front cultivators still on it. Want pictures? |

Just as Delta Red said. I'll add, if you are mounting them by yourself it is easier to mount the two (red) frames one at a time to the tractor's mounting pads with the three bolts; then attach the rods to the touch control arms. Less chance of a mashed finger if these rods are latched to the cultivator frames as you put the frames into position. Lastly attach the (blue) shoe arms (easier to attach the inside ones first, then the outside ones). Takes the same wrench for these four bolts as the frame six bolts. |

If it's not too much trouble to snap a couple pictures that would be very helpful. I'm trying to buy new (parallel linkage type) toolbar and toos to fit up to it and so the set up is basically from scratch. Thinking if I can get an idea how the original setup looked with the old style cultivators then I can rig something up to use the newer style systems. |

Your Private Messaging is turned off. If you enable it, I can send you my email but I still have one of the old cell phones, you know, the ones that can only call people. Haha. Thanks! |

Yes. It is the big heavy International box end wrench than came with the Super C in 1952. It fit the axle clamp bolts, cultivator bolts, front frame weights bolts, etc. Good wrench. |

Are the long arms that attach to the touch control anything special or can they be fabricated? Alternatively, are they a common part that can be ordered or found used? |

You should be able to fabricate the lift arms. Do you have email? I could measure mine and mail you a sketch. You should be able to contact me by clicking on "Send Email" tab on the right. I can post photos and a sketch on here, if you need me to do it that way. Im in PA right now. It will be this weekend before I can do anything for you. |
