Will a starter off a Massey 444 work on a 1950 Massey 44?

Believe it will bolt on, and it's 12 volt if I recall.

I would believe it should fit if 44 is 4 cylinder and not 6, do not know about 6.

444 is 12 volt, 44 is 6 volt. If converting to 12 volt, you will need new lights, generator, regulator, etc. Ben

I put a gear reduction starter on my MH44 EFI from Goldburg, the compression is 9.5:1, it cranks over a lot easier.

Starter for a Cockshutt 40 or 50 is the same as a MH 44 except for where the battery cable mounts.

Starters are as generic as socks . Just look at the number of mounting bolts , pattern, gear tooth number , tooth pitch and rotation. New Generic starters from eBay of your local parts shop son’t Cost any more than a pre abused starter . There are some outright powerful starters such as the MT39 which will wail over even an 8.1 Diesel in the winter .
