The original subject was "Best way to ship a vintage yardstick?".

Here is one solution. Post gives away the priority boxes, course you are supposed to use them for priority mail but this is one solution. If it is a high dollar piece and you are really worried about it I would use a length of PVC pipe with ends.

If it?s goung on usps I?d suggest schedule 80 pipe with threaded on or welded caps

I recently shipped a piece of chrome in a shipping tube from Staples. I taped it to a lathe strip and wrapped it in padding. Was cheap and got there no problem.
I taped the ends of the tube with shipping tape.
