Had the septic tank pumped out today. They wanted almost $300.00 to pull filter and pump to clean out. Wife said " No Way ". We will do it ourselves. She helped clean and put it all back together. 1 1/2 hours long job. Think I will get any brownie points for tomorrow?

What kind of a filter do you have on septic system? Never heard of one and we don't use any around here.

Yours has a pump along with the filter? My filter is on top pull lid and it's right there but it's got gravity flow.
Brownie points might depend on shower and how clean you are and if there is any reminder on yourself or clothing .

It's is really more of a strainer than a filter and it is used to keep solids out of the field lines.

Never heard of a pump and filter setup on a septic system unless it has something to do with a engineered system or some enviro regulation?? Both of our systems are gravity flow with tank and leach bed. I do have ours pumped every 5 years, about $300.00, never had a problem.

bmack, my tank is down hill from the house but, the drain field is up hill from the tank. So the tank has a pump and filter in it. the filter is more of a screen than a filter, but they call it a filter. Helps to keep the solids out of the drain field. In our county it is a standing joke that s#$% don't run down hill unless you pump it up hill first.

I get it now, makes sense. One of my first jobs was pouring concrete septic tanks and cisterns in Colorado. One of the tanks required an aerator motor in one compartment to help settle solids. A Colorado thing at the time.
