I am about to put the head back on my Allis B. Should I use any type of gasket glue or sealer?

Some do and some don't think so. I never have and never had a problem. Just remember to clean the threads in the block with a tap as well as the bolt threads. Then lube the bolt threads and under the head of the bolt. Also after it is running warm it up to operating temp and retorque and re adjust the valve lash. Dirty threads can read full torque readings and not actually be tight.

Thanks Dick. I just cleaned the threads and tapped the holes and I can see why that is a good practice.

It depends.........

Do you have a metallic gasket, or a fiber one?

I don't know what gaskets are out there now, but different manufacturers have offered different types in the past.

A metallic one will benefit from a sealer, or even paint. Usually a fiber one is used as is.

As part of the installation, I would recommend using thread sealer on the manifold studs. It's a little insurance against having to drain the antifreeze again after you've got it all together.
