Tractor acts like the transmissin shut out is causing it not to start, but the transmission is in neutral. It should start. Battery and starter are good. Is it possible to circumvent the transmission starter lock out? Thanks.

No disrespect intended here, as I don't know if you're new to the tractor or not. Did you make sure the high/low shifter is in neutral and fuel knob on dash pushed in? Are you getting fuel to system? MF 165 manual also lists many things to check for not starting.

It is common that the safety switch on top of the
trans is bad. You can pull the two wires out and
hold them together to test(Be sure in nuetral)

Thanks for the tips....I am not new to the tractor (had it over 20 years!) and did check these things. Will be trying shorting the wires, as mentioned. Thanks so much.
