I have an old model DR A wheat drill that I have used with no problems for the last few years. It came with our farm. Yesterday I gave it a fresh paint job and made it look new again.
My only problem is I can no longer read the plate under the lid that says all the various settings for it. Too much surface rust on it. I want to try using it to plant another of my pastures in Bermuda next spring and I can"t find any info on the settings or even if it is possible with this particular drill. The seed maybe too small I think. If anyone has one of these old drills I"d appreciate any information you could share on it"s use. All I"ve used it for is wheat each fall.

Have your JD dealer get you a operators manual and a new seed chart for lid.

I just got back from the dealer. I ordered the manual but the seed chart has been discontinued he said. Hopefully the manual will have all the info in it. All I can make out on the old one is that there are settings for wheat, oats, peas and something else. There might be more but I can"t read any of it.

Lid charts never cover grass seeds that I remember. You may need a grass box it on it and accessory manual for the grass box. Otherwise jack one side up and put some seed over a feed and chalk mark a tire and measure and calculate it out. You local FSA or extension agent may have some numbers on how much to plant in your area.

It's 6 pounds per acre for the bermuda I planted in our other field. I'm going to drop a lot more for a faster establishment though. It takes too long to spread around here otherwise. I may try putting together a grass box for it. I just found a couple in junk yards but missing parts. The dealer still services all the parts for them, just not the whole assembly anymore. Thanks!

Burrels in Oklahoma has drill parts for older ones so might check with them too.
