I have most of the parts for installing the headlights and taillights on a 52 Ford 8N (side mount distributor) and a 53 Ford Golden Jubilee. Both were purchased without lights installed. On page 160-161 of the Master Parts catalog I've noted the location of the wires. I have a few questions: It says 7 clips attach the wires. How do the clips attach to the hood or do they attach to the hood? I haven't bought the clips yet, just saw them in the catalog. Where does the fuse recepticle (number 11654) attach? On which side of the instrument panel does the light switch attach? Where do I attach the wire feeding the light switch. Does it feed from the battery or the ignition switch? I looked in the repair manuals but can't seem to find any info. The archives only have a few replys and these didn't address the problem. I'd appreciate any advice on attaching the wires now so that I can avoid any mistakes.

I bought some & haven't figured them out either

On which side of the instrument panel does the light switch attach?
Should be a hole on left kinda above the key switch. Can send a pic of mine if need be.

Where do I attach the wire feeding the light switch. Does it feed from the battery or the ignition switch?
Mine runs through the keyswitch with no problems yet but many advise against it. My old one was just a hot wire connected to the battery & it worked fine also.

I looked in the repair manuals but can't seem to find any info.
I'm guessing that since these were accesories there won't be much info about them.

newbie/pa.........DO NOT run yer headlites thru yer weaksister ignition switch. It will cause weak sparkies and hard starting and DIM lites. Connect to the BATTERY SOURCE terminal of yer 2-terminal junction block. Connected correctly, turning ON yer headlites will indicate about 7-10amps DISCHARGE (-) on yer ammeter. With engine running about 1/3rd throttle, yer ammeter shud show about 5-amp charge (+)

yer current genny wires are "clippied" to edge of hood using same squashed "S" springy-thingys that will hold headlite wires. Check'em-out.

Since headlites were DEALER INSTALLED, there is NO OFFICIAL way to install wiring or switches. Even the MPC is un-clear.

MOST IMPORTANT thing about todays headlites on 60yo rusty sheetmetal tractors. Run a SEPARATE GROUND wire back to the castiron engine block. DO NOT TRUST rusty sheetmetal joints to be good grounds inside headlite shell or attaching to doglegs. So what iff'n you haffta slightly drill-out the hollow headlite mounting bolt to run 2-wires.

Dunno about yer complaint about no info in archives. Just the word "headlights" brought back over 1500 entrys. ........respectfully, Dell

Newbie......the seven clips are used to keep the light wiring up out of the way.If you will look in the MPC,it shows the placement of the clips. Some to the cross brace that supports the gas tank and the others down the inside of the hood. The 11654 is your light swx. and fuse, and should be mounted on the lower left side of your dash. There is a feed wire 14525 that feeds the swx. from the hot post on your terminal block to the swx.Do not run the lights thru the ignition swx.
Contrary to what some may say...the light kits were mostly installed by the dealers and the kits came with installation instructions. don b

I stand corrected on the light switch placement. Mine is up high like that & I "assumed" it was correct but while at Don B's today I noticed all 3 of his were lower left. After looking at mine again I notice theres a dimple there in the dash that would be the spot to drill. Now I wanna put mine in the right place & patch up the hole.
Take their advice on how to wire it, they've seen many more than I have.

I would like to thank Jon, Don B and Dell for all the help and advice with my wiring problems. This information will really assist me out with my installation. Note to Dell: When I hit the search, I keyed the phrase installing headlights instead of just headlights and this limited the scope of my research. Thanks for suggesting headlights.

Mines a 52 but sounds like it was mounted like the 50.
The reason I was looking over yours so hard is that after I put my toolbox back on the lid almost hits the back of the headlight switch when I open it. Looking at yours had me confused (cause they weren't even close) til I got home & realized they were in different places.
I thought it was because I'd got the aftermarket light switch (longer) instead of the OEM one.

Glad we were of some help newbie/pa, theres good info around these forums, just ask.
