We just bought a NH 880 with a 2 row corn head. It is in very good condition, but I am new to the silage game. What are some pros/cons/things to be aware of as I put it to use in a couple of weeks?

Just looks in good shape on outside or have you been inside it some yet? Knives not worn and will still sharpen up okay. Cutter bar not worn out or reversed for a good edge yet. Look close at bearings after it's shut off after running it some to see if anything is loose or hot bearings. Blower box and chute in good shape with no holes worn in linings? Might even want to just go chop a little to see what happens.

If you did not get the owner's manual with it, order one from New Holland dealer. You will be glad that you did.

It came with the original manual and the people we bought it from (some friends of ours) had just had the knives reworked. I replaced a couple of chains and put some new knife sections on the cutter bar, so hopefully it will be ready to go. The tire guy is coming in the morning to replace a rear tube in our 1105, so as soon as the tractor is rolling, I"m going to give it a try. We don"t have much corn, so hopefully it won"t take too long to get it cut. We have 2 old Farmhand 200 power boxes to get it out of the field and to the bunker.
