Rex:

Dual wheel adapters were once offered by Ford. These have become hard to find but can be found occassionally in the classifieds and on eBay. Commercially available kits are no longer offered.

I have a set/kit I'll sell but, it isn't gonna be cheap. I have over 250 bucks invested in all of the lugs and spacers.

Clamp-on duals should also work, if you can find the right size. My neighbor has a set of 28" clamp-ons for sale, but I'm not sure what width they are. As far as I know, they should still be available new, too. (but that gets into serious $$$)

Rextafier,

This is a picture of a set of dual wheel adaptors I sold several years ago. You bolt them on using the existing lug nuts and then bolt the extra wheels onto the adaptor.

I may be able to help with this - I've had inquiries about making the dual wheel adapters. Not terribly difficult if I can find enough people to justify the startup costs. Give me a yell.

You need 16 lug extenders (item number Cool and 2 spacers (item number 9) in the parts diagram. The lug extenders are available new (p/n FDS-118) from Steiners @$11 each. The spacers are NLA new as far as I know but can be found used or fabricated if you have the wallet for it.

Do you remember approximately what length that part was? 8"? 10"? I have the 4" extensions and was thinking about putting two of those together to make this ORIGINAL dual wheel adapter. I just tell from the picture what length it is. It's the only set I've ever seen, so you're the expert. Just how much did it come out from the wheel hub?

Thank you.

The dual wheel spacer (item #9) is 1.5" thick and 8" in diameter. The wheel stud extenders are 2.625" OAL with a 1.125" x 5/8-18" male thread.

Thank you for the quick response. Wanted the height (length) of the ADAPTER not the spacer in the FIRST picture. I want to see if putting two 4" Extensions (they're still available on ebay and salvage yards) equals the ORIGINAL ADAPTER in the FIRST PICTURE on this blog. Has ribs between the two plates and is the original dual wheel adapter as seen in the picture. Looks like 8" or 10" to me, maybe more - hard to tell from the picture. That's what I want to know the length of. I assumed the picture was yours of the adapter. It seemed to be tied to your name ID.

The adapter in the first picture is not and never was a dual wheel adapter. It is a spacer for use with power adjust rims. If you try to use it as a dual wheel adapter you will find quickly the wheel studs are not long enough for a wheel and the spacer. There won't be enough threads for the lug nut. The only true original dual wheel spacers (that work properly) are shown in the second photo.

Seriously... so my idea to use two sets of the 4" extensions could work. I believe you, but wish there was proof so I could stop my search. A Ford 8n had power adjust rims? That must have been rare.
