Since 21/64" is bigger than 5/16", why is that asking for trouble?

Just curious.

I'd have to agree with Dean Olson. Get the highest rated winch that you can afford. In general, most of those companies tend to exagerate the pulling capability of their winch. Don't go with a small capacity winch (like a 4500 pound pull one). The 8,000 or 9,000 pound pull ones that you are looking at should do the job. I burned up a 4500 pound rating winch, pulling a car (Chev Impala) onto a trailer. No flat tires, so I wasn't dragging it, but it still couldn't do it. An Impala doesn't even weigh 4500 pounds.

This id the one I have

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200422430_200422430

They were $399 at the time I got mine,,, Warning Exclamation I did not like the fixed Fairland so brought a roller for $50,,, had to make my own mounting plate,,, take that into consideration...

I have installed a few for customers and so far no issues... I install them so they can be removed,,, I have changed the way I mount'em and no pix,,, this is the first one I tangled with... Next time I go look'n will buy one already set up with a roller Fairland that bolts up np modifications needed...
