My question is,can a 201 ci Case engine from a 660 SP combine bolt up to the 411B with Case-o-matic.I am aware of the added length, but my concernes are the bell housing connection with the sealing of the oil.Also the front bolt pattern to the steering casting. It fits, and is a relatively easy swap. The starter needs to be sealed, to keep the oil where it belongs. The front bolster will bolt up also. There are a few other challenges, but its pretty straight forward.

The basic bell housing pattern is the same except at the starter, the 411 used a two bolt starter and the 201 has a three bolt flange. It would be interesting to have both gaskets to lay on top of each other to compare to see if sealing would be a problem in that area. The only other thing I could think of that is a potential problem would be the crankflange if it is larger on a 201 vs the 148. Either way if it is a 530- 630 com flywheel will put you where you need to be. That should be a snotty lil unit when you get it done, keep us posted. Go for it!! I edited this post to add to the comment fom Todd, it will be overkill I know buy I would put the Nippondenso starter on it as it has sealed bearings at the drive. It is a diesel starter available from Case,s Megavolt program. If you elect to use a standard starter it will need to be sealed as Todd has stated. mEl

The 201 block is about 2" longer than the 148, so that presents a problem w/ the axle support, steering shaft & hood. A neighbor did it w/ a 430, and that is what he ran into.

ToddD and mEL;Thank you both so much for the info and incouragement. I bought the 411B with a cracked block,water jacket and between cylinders,the tractor was outside for a couple of years with the head off. So after it thawed out, there was water in crankcase up to the block crack and in torque tube and transmission. This is my first Case tractor,was raised with the other orange,green and red.I have the service manual and parts manual for the 411B which will be a big help,but there is nothing to replace the knowledge that you folks share in this forum.Thanks for now. I will keep you updated,but at 70 I'm not as good/fast as I once was!Arie in Michigan

As John stated, the steering rod needs to be lengthened, as does the axle support. If I remember, we used the starter off the 411b, but it needs some work to fit. Also, the flywheel and oil pan needs to be off a COM tractor with a 188G engine (530 or 630 I believe). Make sure the 201 you've got is in good shape, as parts are expensive, when you can find them.
