Hey, thank you Richard Bartlett, Tiresntracks and Mick Richman. I rebuilt the fuel pump after I found a tiny spring broken in one of the valves, then found the diaphragm wasn't seated right in the vacumm governor, so cleaned it all up and reassempled carefully to get everything airtight. What a difference! No surging, and I'll swear I have a lot more power now. This tractor has never run better in the 6 years I have owned it, and mowing season is here - life is good.

well done David! It's nice to hear of a problem solved! I think it's just a comfort knowing its not just me that fiddles, tinkers and regularly curses a Fordson (although never within earshot of her!)
