|
|
Hey guys. I am intrested in purchasing a 1962 Ford 2000 Deisel Tractor. The owner says everything on the tractor works well including power steering, transmission, lights, alternator, etc. EXCEPT for the hydraulic lift. He says that it only works part of the time with or without weight.
My question is, are parts hard to find for this tractor since it is the earliest style of the 2000 series?? What would you guys suspect the problem to be with the hydraulics?? He told me that the reason he is selling it is because he was told parts are hard to find for it.
THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP. |

Ok, well I see that it is an English Made Ford Tractor from Tractordata.com. Is this going to be hard to find parts for?? What could possibly wrong with the lift since he says it only works sometimes??
We were thinking of buying it to fix up and re-sell. He is asking $1,200 or best offer. He says its in good working and runnning condition except for the hydraulic lift.
ANY HELP/COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS are appreciated very much!! THANKS! |

You can find parts (near 100%) for Fordson Dexta tractors online. The Ford/New Holland dealer can get some parts; not all.
Here is the problems. Knowing what to get. Second is what to do with the part. Manuals are written in British generality. Many procedures are written in overview with specific steps left to experience.
With the hydraulics, how to adjust the lift to set the limits is an issue. Book calls for a jig.
Most all the adjustments in the Dexta is in the top cover. It takes less than 1 hr to pull the cover.
Some dealers will do the top cover.
Oscars Fordson page (google it) has the top cover adjustment procedures without a jig.
I bought one of these Dextas, like it so well I bought another running Super Dexta and a parts Super Dexta. I'd rate the Super Dexta near one of the best basic utility tractors ever build.
But they are 50 years old. If you buy a worn out tractor and patch it up, you'll be disappointed with patch work repair. If you go thru it and fix it right, Dextas are near bulletproof. Too bad most buy cheap as possible and just get them running, then they sit seeing only 50-60 hours yearly.
I have noticed a trend. Dexta tractor sell cheap. The nice ones really cleaned up and superbly repair and restored don't sell. It could be the owner is like me and won't part with it. It could be that tractor users don't see the Dexta as a collectors tractor and until the public gets to know Dexta; parts are hard to find for these things, right? They were made in England. (so were the thousand series Fords)
Good Luck

Are you saying that with the lift only working part of the time, that it is an adjustment issue?? I feel like there is something mechanical wrong with the lift myself. What would a nice running conditioned one usually sell for? |

Normally, the problem is worn linkages in the lift cover. The repair is to replace these linkages anad adjust. These linkages are smaller than a pencil, runing from the lift control to the control valve. They are avail. The ram is simple o-rings on a piston. Most older Dextas simply have worn linkage.
Symptom are lift will lift part way most of the time. Lift will lift all the way some of the time. Movement of the lift lever makes it intermittently work. |
