Have "Old Abe" cast iron eagle that I would like to have restored. Checked with Rick's Restorations in Las Vegas-couldn't help. Does anyone know of someone in the US who could properly restore Abe?
Thanks in advance. |

What all does it need to be restored?
Is it rusty, broke, or what? Were those painted? I can't remember.
If it is just faded I would be inclined to leave it original.

It's very rusted with most of the paint gone. Otherwise, it's in great shape. Seems to me it needs to be sand blasted and then repainted with the original paint colors. I think I read somewhere on this site or another that Case still has the color numbers for Old Abe. I know there is always the question as to restore or not to restore but in this situation I really think it would be better to restore. I could do it myself but really feel it should be done by a "professional"-someone who has experience with Old Abes. Would really appreciate any help finding a restorer. I can deliever it anywhere in the US. I live in PA. |

Find someone who restores toy tractors in your area.
They can do it.
Are you close to Iowa?
I have a friend that does a very good job sandblasting and repainting toys.
I can give more info if you would like, depending on shipping.

I did mine myself. I have the Case factory directions and painted it close but not exact to what they showed. It still looks great though.

That looks really nice. What are the case factory directions? How do I get a copy? Did you use Case paint? |

You can email Rich Tworek at Case to get a copy of them. (rich.tworek@cnh.com)
As for the paint, the only paint I used from case is the brown on the body. The others were either not available anymore or they didn't give a number for. Like the blue for example was just called a sky blue so I guessed. |

Hello tmesserli,
Here is my interest in the J.I.Case "Old Abe".
I bought an early 1970 Case 1030 recently and I happend to run across an old broken down farm house with several old Case Tractors in various stages of canable dissasembly and decay... As I visted with the old fellow and checked out is stock for potential parts for my tractor, I saw TWO of these "Old Abe" Eagles standing ontop of the world.
I thought to myself that I wanted them, but knowing they were old and also imagining that they might be rare as well, I declined to ask him about them because I wanted to research them and try to find out what would be an average value in today"s market.
They are both in what appeared to be "good condition" with no cracks or broken parts. However, they are both 100% rust with no traces of any paint on them.
Could you please take a moment to let me know what you think would be a fair price to pay for them and what they would possibly be worth on the market either in "as is" or restored condition?
Thanks!

The value depends on how tall they are and condition of the paint. I saw one a few years ago, repainted that was around 6ft tall sell for 25,000 dollars. If you post a picture of them, determining the value would be easier. height plays a big role in the value of these eagles. |
