scroll down the threads and you will read about a lot of people reporting about scammers on hauling...don"t give him a piece of your mind, just get as much info you can from them, if you think it's a scam, you can contact the right authorities if needed, and let y-t people on form know, so they can be aware of the person trying to scam you if so, that way they can watch out also...

Is asking for a deposit a 100% accurate indication that the guy is a scammer?
Somehow, that doesn't make sense. I can see why a legitimate hauler would want a deposit. He's taking a LOT of risk loading something and driving hundreds or thousands of miles. What if the guy at the destination stiffs him? |

A good hauler will accept cash on delivery with no deposit, I just had a 1400lb skid delivered from Texas to Michigan. He pulled in driveway I unloaded with my tractor and gave him a handful of cash, and we were both happy! |

Asking for a deposit does NOT make him a scammer. A deposit will however guarantee there is actually a load for the trucker to haul after he has driven several hundred miles to get there. It works both ways guys. Plenty of legitimate truckers have been scammed also. |

Asking for a deposit does not mean he is a scammer.
He is taking just as much a risk that he will travel hundreds of miles to pick up your tractor and then being told sorry I changed my mind.
With out a deposit he is SOL.
You are not a business with a track record so look at it from his side for a second.
I have been in this business all my adult life and if I were looking for something to be hauled I would...........
First look for a local hauler. Someone that is local to you should not have a problem showing up without a deposit.
If that did not work out .......
Second I would look for a big company. Many truck lines have smaller what I call hot shot trucks and trailers.
If that was to high or did not work out .....
Third I would look for a small one truck outfit. I would ask for his DOT and MC #'s and look them up Here
From this site I could see what if any insurance he may have and if he has a legal right to haul my tractor across state lines.
I would not have a problem giving any of the above a deposit even though most of the above may not ask for one.
Now if you are looking for a unlicensed; uninsured; guy with a pickup and a trailer trying to make some beer money because he is cheaper than everyone else then maybe a deposit is not such a good idea. He may scam you. |

I've hauled a lot of tractors for a lot of guys I didn't know. Went all the way from Milwaukee, WI to Sidney Montana to pick one up and deliver to the Twin Cities. As a hauler, my deal was simple: I'll arrange the pickup with the seller prior to going, and upon delivery, I get paid BEFORE your tractor even gets unchained. If you don't pay me, I'M KEEPING YOUR TRACTOR , plain and simple. It's always worked for me. I've been offered a deposit many times and always refused, mostly because if something were to happen that I couldn't fulfill the obligation, I didn't want the customer to worry about getting his deposit back, and an accounting hassle for me. If I wound up with an extra tractor for my troubles, that wouldn't be the end of the world either LOL |

I haul all the time with no deposit. And have not had problems with the piece not being there.
I have read about all the problems, with this one individual as being a scam, with the money card. I would however ask for references, and numbers as well as insurance info if you have doubts. |
