I am trying to get my new to me fordson major diesel started and have having a problem with the injector pump. It is one of the simms vacuum pumps. When i first oiled everything up to try to start the engine i could not get the fuel stop lever to move more than a half an inch and after a little force it did move and i heard a sound like a dry seal pulling apart, so i think it did not seal back up, could that be possible? is it ok to remove the cover that says "simms" and look inside? Currently it will not pump any fuel. |

You may want to remove rear cover, diaphragm may be brittle and torn, will need replaced if bad. Engine will overspeed if vacuum lines or diaphragm have air leaks. |

Took the cover off and discovered that the fuel stop rod was stuck in the pull(off) position. Oiled it up and it works great now. |
