I have a 1930 fordson tractor with the following problem. The engine will role over with the tractor in gear. The clutch and brake are on one peddle. With the weight off the rear tires and in gear you can role the rt tire to the front and the left side will role in reverse with out the engine turning over. Could the clutch be engaged or stuck letting the engine to role sepertly? If so will I need to split the tractor to fix the problem or is there an easier way to fix the problem? Or what might the problem be and how do I fix it?

Your Fordson has a worm drive to transfer the power to the pinions. This problem is not a problem but very normal. However you can't pull start it either. If your tired of cranking just belt it up to another tractor. Is this a Row Crop/All Around or a F/N model?

I do not know the type of fordson. It was made in England not Ireland. You can't pull it as the tires with weight on them will not role because as stated before if the rt is turns forward the lt roles the opposite direction. Also you can crank the engine over even if the the tractor is in gear. Its like the clutch is depressed so there is no transfer of of power from the cranking to the gear box..

Don't try to tow this tractor. You are risking breaking the worm gear set if it doesn't turn very freely. You should properly remove the worm from bottom bearing of rearend.

If it was made in England, it would be 1933 or later. Only a few were built in 1933 or 34 because of the worldwide depression.
