I recently purchased a Farmall 400. Everything runs but the paint could use updating. My question is, did all 400s come in all red? Someone has painted this one with the white on the grill and behind the "Farmall" on the sides of the hood like the 450s are painted.
I can't find the serial number on the left side. How else do you find out the year? |

All the 400 that were new in this area all came red. The hundred series were all red and the 50 series were red with white grill and behind the Farmall on side panels. The serial number should be on a tag on the left side of bellhousing. |

All 400 tractors were all red. The 450's had a painted white grill and behind the emblems on the hood they used a white decal which you can still get for the 450's. If you don't have a serial tag look on the back of the axle and it will have a date stamped on each side. |

The original dealer could have updated the paint on the tractor to sell leftovers when the 50 series came out.
Two of our neighbors had M's that were purchased new that the dealer painted white/cream on the hood accents to make them look better/different.
Personally I like the all red with chrome emblems. |
