My engine swap in a Case CX47 mini hoe...Took out a well used Yanmar and swapped in a 1903 Kubota..My top issue is the fan , I think.. I had to replace the engine fan with an electric fan.. [ Mr Gasket # 1987 ]. Supposedly the Gasket fan is good for 1800 plus CFM.... The Kubota waterpump is slightly off center with the crankshaft , so the blades would have to be trimmed to fit.. This is why I opted for the electric fan..Swapped out the thermostat..Turned the fan blade assembly around and made sure the fan rotation was correct.. It'll blow yer hat off..The radiator was taken out of the same machine the engine came from..It was clean as a whistle.. I took the waterpump off again to make sure no rags were left in there [ to keep mice out while apart].. Made the fan continuous run with key on..Took thermostat out and tried it..I'm kinda wondering if there isn't enough air supply for the fan to pick up.. Most of the body surround panels are gasketed and tight..I think I'll take off a side panel to try anything different.

This is just a thought, you say its getting hot, what do you mean,is it starting to boil or is the gauge reading high,if the gauge is reading high try the sender unit from the original engine,if it is an overheating problem that is causing it to boil check the coolant for bubbles with the fan belt off,if thats OK and you are happy with the exhaust plumping and air intake and outlet for the rad is not restricted, its as important to have the outlet open to allow the hot air to escape so it will not recirculate it,transplants are a PIA and when you go so far one has to keep going.
Good luck
AJ

Nope ... This thing is getting HOT....It will push the top off the overflow bottle...Machine hasn't arrived yet.. I'm gonna run open header to try it out..Maybe try to make a tighter fan shroud..

Hey Roy, Running w/o a t/stat is not good as coolant can flow too fast thru the rad. to reject heat. A blocked open t/stat will give you proper restriction in the coolant flow circuit. Also check the lower hose (water pump- in) to make sure that it is not collapsing, which will cut off flow into water pump- some hoses have a spring inside the hose that will prevent it from sucking shut.Another possible problem with removing the t/stat is that on some engines the t/stat when open will block off a bypass passage in the block which will mess up the coolant flow.

About coolant flowing thru radiator too fast, I had an old IHC Travelall, approx 60 -61 model, with overheating problems that a new thermostat did not fix. It was a IHC V8 engine either 392 or 345 I think and it had truck size hoses to the radiator. An old IHC mechanic suggested putting a washer in the upper hose. I finally found one, about 1" center hole and 3 1/2" O.D., put it in hose at radiator and it cured my problem. I mean it had big hoses.
I also tuned it up one time and put a bad condenser in it. That cost me a starter.
