Found an older dozer with bucket sitting by a ditch. Going out tomorrow to take photos and may be fixable . Don't know that make it is. Sort of reminds me of our venture. lol. Sure would appreciate your input as soon as we can post pictures. (SILs Project-Maybe)He found a JD440 gas loader dozer and we were wondering what we should tell him to watch out for on problem areas of the dozer. If anyone knows, you will.Any weak spots or problem areas to be concerned with such as trans, or final drives, steering clutches and etc? Any pointers to watch for is greatly appreciated. Their asking price is $4500.00 OBO. Even though it may be cheap in some areas of the country,or maybe higher, for around here it's close. We can haul it to his house, and the owner says it runs, drives great, but we've heard that before,as I'm sure you have to.When you find time, I would appreciate your answers, and do thank you in advance.
Regards, LOU. |

DEJA VU.What we found was an J.D.420 complete and a split 440 with out the engine, cowling, radiator (front end).Don't have the serial numbers list that tells the age of the 420 with serial # 117535. Thought the unit was solid and hoses wrapped to protect em. Looks like ,even though it's been sitting out in the open, some provision was used to preserve the lines. Don't know if it's for sale and if the engine is free, but would certainly make a project for the SIL.The Son In Law isn't quite capable of patient dismantling fixing /replacing parts etc. Any way thought if I had more time, We just might take on this project without the 100o temp.Would loose money but we've done that before. Still looking for one with a blade thats reasonable. Your advice on a J.D (complete) 440 Gas.Different location, different machiene. Thanks for any comments you would give. Regards LOU.

Money wise your last project would not add up and this one certainly won,t either. The end product won.t be worth the effort but I know you and if you want to do it the jd might be better in the end than the oliver. In my parts that thing would be 285 dollars a ton to the scrapper.
lots of newer projects around here that can be bought for what they weigh. Good luck and good to here from you how ever you go. |

The 420C S/N you posted shows to be a 1957.
The last picture is either a 720 or 820 Diesel tractor. The x30s had a smooth hood.
I believe the crawler w/winch is an early non H-L-R 450 or 350. If any of this info helps.
Bryce

I've got a Case 1000 BR crawler loader that I need to get rid of, it runs great and is ready to go to work. It needs a few small repairs, nothing major. Wouldn't take much to fully restore it, too good to scrap. |
