I am considering buying a new gear shift boot for my 1944 WC. What all is involved in changing the boot? I'm assuming I could remove the knob from the gear shift lever and then slide the new boot down into place? Also, how does the knob come off?

Never actually changed one on a WC Don, but on the other tractors I've done the gearshift knob screws off (not necessarily easily) then the old boot will come off and the new one will slide down over.
If it doesn't fit on easily, boil it in a pan of water for a minute or two. It will soften up so it will stretch enough without tearing.

Thanks! I thought it screwed off, but wasn't sure. Also, it looks like to me that the after market boots aren't the same as the orginal style. Do you know if anyone sells the original style?
