190 d runs for 2-5 seconds

I have a 190 on its last legs. I was going to move it out of the way so I could pour concrete. It started (with a good shot of ether) and run about 2 minute then died right in the driveway. I have replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the sediment bowl, blew out the fuel lines, and cleaned the screen on the inlet to the pump. I also inserted a fuel pump between the filter and the pump. It will start and run for 2 -5 seconds then dies. the longer I leave it sit, the longer it will run but not long enough to get it moved, plus it has a loader on it so pulling it is out of the question where it is sitting right now. Any suggestions?

It doesnt have a roosamaster pump does it? if so, it could be the check valve located on the on top of the pump housing, where the return line hooks to. Theres a check valve there that tends to get plugged.

Those 190's have a roosamaster pump, right? It's probably got the governor ring going bad in the pump, and the little chunks of plastic will clog up the fuel return at the check valve on top of te pump and shut it down. You may be able to remove the check valve, and it may stay running long enough to move it. My 806 did that the first evening I had it running when I got it. Had to have the pump rebuilt. -Andy
