Hello, I have to split my 580B and I have a million guestions. I live in Pa. I would love get her going again. Do you have rough idea what the cost is change the forward clutch pack? Can I do this job outside on level ground? Should I take the cab off?I have a good supply of tools, are there any special tools I need get? Wow, I wish you live next door!

Dave, seems like the last one I did ran around the 400.00 mark for the parts on the packs ( I would change both fwd and rev if I were you) as to outside yes it can be done but it does work best on a concrete floor as you need to roll the rear half of the tractor away from the front and I use a floor jack to hold up the front of the trans case when doin this but I have used plywood on a hard dirt floor when I was in a bind one time not the best but if you are very careful it can be done, just remember it is very important when going back together to make sure every thing is clean, as to the cab I will assume it is the Case factory cab? if so this can be left on but you will need to support the rear of it when removing the rear axle/trans unit, I use a hoist, if you have no way to safely support it then yes remove it as you will be under/inside the tractor and loader frame at times during the repair so make sure you can support and block front of machine safely, also to do this repar you will need access to a Case shop manual as they have step by step instructions how to do all repairs properly and have very good photo instructions as well, I hope I have not rattled on to much sounds like you are mechanically inclined so I have faith that you can do this repair with the help of the SM and save your self a lot of moey in labor as well as keeping the unit from the scrap yard, as I had said before once you do one it is not that bad of job, but I would check with your local dealer and make sure the shuutle parts are still available as CNH seems to like to obselete parts now, there are also two different brands of shuttle they used through the years a tear down will allow you to identify what you have but you can have the dealer veryiy both types are still available sorry still rambling good luck cnt tom

Thanks Tom, I think I will try save my hoe. It runs good and I have rebuilt most of the hoe including the valve. That was a treat! But I am learning. It will have to wait now till November. I do have a shop manual and I have read it a lot. If I pour a small slab of concrete,how big would it need to be to do this job? Minimum size? I guess 8x8 would work for the rear? Thanks for your help.Dave

Dave 8x8 should work fine and I would be glad to advise if needed when you do the job, if I were closer I would help first hand but I think that PA is a little far for me LOL great news on saving her cnt tom

Thanks Tom, I probably won't get to it till late sept. but I'm going to need advise. I am thinking about taking the cab off.
