Fired up the old Massey 97 with the 504 engine. Runs and accelerates good, but misses at high idle. Any ideas Unfortunatley I cannot drive the tractor yet as it needs a bull pinion on one side. |

If that has a Rosa-Master DB pump it may be the flex ring on the governor. Could also be the injectors. |

check your static timing also you could check your advance if it is a DB pump but you need the clear timing window to do that Bob |

If it runs good otherwise and isn't popping smoke then most likely your timing is a little bit slow. The original pumps on these don't have timing advance. I have a 707 that does this. It turns about 2200 at high idle and has a definate skip to it. As soon as it loads up a bit it goes away. You can advance the timing, but if you go too far it won't start very well. |

First of all, is it warmed up good when you do this? If not, there's your problem. Those energy cells need to be good and hot to work efficiently. If you've had it apart and just put it back together, check your timing, you may need a couple more degrees advance, which is where I would start. Loosen the pump and give it some and see if that helps. If its all original, could just be valve adjustment or an injector issue. I would run a couple bottles of Lucas injector cleaner through it. Don't follow the directions, use one quart to 5 or 10 gallons of fuel, that should help. |

Sounds as if nozzle spindles may be hanging a little. Remove self locking nuts if so equipped, lockwashers if they are there and tighten plain nuts evenly to 15 ftlbs |
