Ford Jubilee points problem

I have a "Jubilee" Ford w?front loader
she ran great until one day, it started, ran under choke for about 30 secs then died, no spark
REplaced everything, still no spark. Seems to be shorting out but we cnt find where. Ran a wire from the points directly to the coil eliminating the copper strap. still nothing
please help us get the old girl running again. We are not old tractor guys

Well #1 throwing parts at it is not the way to go you make more problems then you fix. First off pull the cap and rotor and dust cover. Turn the ignition on and open and close the points by hand. You should both hear and see a spark. If you do not then turn it off then pull the ignition side wire off the coil turn it on then touch the wire back to the coil then off again. Do you see a spark?? If yes and the points are closed open them and try again. With them open if you have spark the short if from the coil in. If no spark with them open or closed the points have a protective coating and it needs cleaned off

This may be way more then you want, but my Ignition Troubleshooting Procedure has a systematic approach which could diagnose the cause of no spark, give it a try, all it takes is a test lamp for the most part.

Over the years I have learned the cheapest and easiest way to check if the point are good baring any shorts if to remove the ignition side wire off the coil then turn the switch on and touch the wire to the coil with the points closed. If you have a spark the points are good or you have a short if no spark the points need to be worked on. No test light needed no tools for the most part needed and it works 99% of the time. You know I do not even own a test light and my meter almost never goes to the shop and you know I know how to work more then just the common run of the mill cheap meter

Yep, Ive tested a ton of things over many years on the farm and in the shop without a test lamp also, but a test lamp is one of the most often and easy used and cheap to buy tools in my shop and I wont be without one. Heck I have them in shop and home and truck and RV and you can buy them so cheap. You ought to get one Rich, they are so darn handy even if YES you can test things other ways.

I have had a few test lights over the years and they always seem to get lost or broken so I just gave up on them and use the old spark test and that always seems to work just fine
