FD4 is a tractor Allis Chalmers made in the French factory. This tractor is similar at tractor model D14 or the ED40 built in England. The FD4 tractor is 40Hp powered with a 3cylinder perkins engine

Interesting.
Must be the "FD" is French diesel, like "ED" is English diesel.
I wonder if they have anything in common. Doesn't make any sense that they would make tractors that close together with different castings, tooling, etc.
I see there was also an FD5 tractor.

You might want to try over at the unofficial Allis page, they had someone post on a restoration they were doing, on one of these. Just google Unofficial allis web page.

Tractor FD4 and ED40 are very similar for the power, but engine are different FD" have an Perkins engine and FD40 have an Standard23C Ricardo Engine ( same engine than Massey Ferguson 835) It is strange and doesn"t make any sens but the the frame of the tractor is also different, but i don"t now for the other parts.
For the history the first FD4 have an Vendeuvre Engine. The FD4 have been produced approximatively from 1960 to 1965 like the FD5 and there is also FD3 the last one is more commun
