Its me again! I just found a local guy with John Deere E hit and miss for $900. What do I need to look for or ask etc. He says it runs good but never been rebuilt. It is a magneto ignition. Thanks.

If it has a good mag that's a big plus. If the tag is on the rear of the engine base, not on the side on the governor cover it is the earlier "brass tag" model E. Cracks and welds knock the price down quick. That price is not out of line, but it's enough for one, would be a better deal if it's on a cart, if it's on the right cart it's probably not a bad deal at all.

There is a guy name Jim White in MO who rebuilds them, paints them and sells them for $900 I have been told.

Well I bit the bullet and bot this unit. The gas tank needs repairing or prob replacing. But he says his dad bot it new and its never been rebuilt. Almost no use the last years. It runs nice. (some backfiring) It weeps some oil at the shaft on flywheel. He wasn't budging on the price and I figured it was local and I could spend $100 or 2 running around easily. So any tips are accepted. Thanks
