One of our recent purchases has a dry trany lube filter. Guess the pump chain is off. We pulled the screen and tried again but no change. My question is since we are pulling the top off, what should we be looking for potential damage to the trany. I assume any play in the upper input shaft needs to be taken care of. Anything else. Ironically we just had it split to put a new clutch and 3 speed in. It is a G-1355.

   Your asssumption is probably correct, the chain from the transmission input shaft sproket to the lube pump has failed.  Most generally the cotter pins in the coupler link fails.  Replacement chains are endless, thus no connector link.  Don't remember when the change was made at the factory.  Input shaft will be the major area of concern.  The lube also goes to the differential assembly and the PTO

Thanks BA. I am assuming that there had to be a good amount of splash lubrication going on especially since it was filled to upper fill plug on the back. I will check to see if we have any endless chains sitting around, have a few parts tractors to look at. How much slop or play would be allowed in the input shaft if any?

One key thing is the input shaft needs lube when the transmission is in high range due to the speed of the gear. If it was me with the experiences we had with those transmissions I would pull the input shaft and check both bushings and the sealing ring.
