Since many of us have back-up generators for the home & shop, and some collect and/or repair Gen-sets, I thought that an article I found might be of interest. I posted it on my blog at: http://everythingengines.wordpress.com/
Note: The article covers the basics. It is not an advanced discussion of design, controls, etc.
A small (6 KW) generator that I worlked on recently had two diodes mounted on the rotating armature that spins at 3600 RPM.
Interesting design to say the least.

Are you in a cold climate?
The reason I ask is that a friend of mine told me that the propane and natural gas "carbs" can be a problem in very cold weather, BUT his point of reference is farm tractors from 10-20 years ago.
