Vermeer 504 G Belts cutting into guides

Went and looked at the baler , its in a consignment auction. The outside belts are cutting ino the top guides , they are tracking to the outside. Belts look worn and splices look rough. Any idea what would make belts pull that hard to the outside. Thanks

We had a 605C, it did the same thing. The belts tend to go to the tight side. On it were two braces that went from the top to the tongue. tighten the one on the side opposite the way the belts go. or make it longer. It didn"t take but a little bit. But make sure it doesn"t have a bearing out. Vic

Could be the splices are not put in square to the belts.
Maybe the PO didn't know how to bale properly and fed to much hay in the center creating a ball.
I don't think its a tracking problem cause you said the belts both ride to the out side.
I they all track to the same side you can adjust that like the other poster said

All belts need to be the same length ,give or take an inch.

I agree with Bison on the possibility of belts not cut squarely when they were re-laced. Also continually making unlevel bales causes belts to track toward the high side of the bale.

I thought my Gehl baler the belts always tracked to the low side of the bale. Which ever side the belts were against was the side that needed more hay to get the belts back centered.

So driving in the center to much would cause the belts on both sides to go out.

Sounds like previous owner drove in the center to much and didn't fill the edges of the bale enough.

A 504 G was made from 1978-82. It likely is on its 2nd set of belts. If so you are better off investing in a new set of belts rather that putting any money in those old belts. The baler is worth $1200-3,800 depending on condition of the baler and the belt condition.The electric twine tie baler is worth $500 more than the hydraulic tie baler. A set of belts is $785.
