The ignition module (coil) may have gone bad; I had to replace the one in my M-18 recently.
Not cheap!!
BTW, a friend of mine bought a tractor with a bad coil. Turns out, the prior owner had hooked up the ignition switch wrong and "fried" the coil.
The small wire from the coil is strictly for "grounding out" the ignition to kill the engine. No current is EVER to be applied to this wire!!
The correct ignition switch for these tractors has one terminal that goes to ground in the off position.
Make sure you positively identify that terminal before you attach your coil wire. |
