I have a Massey 30B Industrial tractor with a shuttle transmission. I have had the tractor split twice to have the shuttle worked on, and I am not in the mood to spend another $3000 getting a shuttle to work and not leak. It’s an excellent tractor other than the transmission. I am hoping that a manual transmission, with manual clutch and bell housing would bolt into the place where this shuttle is without to much trouble.

Hi Jim, The transmission is an excellent one and
I would not change it.Something went wrong in the
repair process and the work was not done right.
Find someone else to fix. They almost never give
trouble. Chuck

I'd bet that it would, if you can find all the stuff. You'll need the brake pedals to move over to the right side too and throttle control. You could probably get it all from a 135 too. If you don't have all the stuff and have to source it still, don't you think that by the time you've got it and swapped it, you'd be just as cheap to repair the shuttle shift?

When you say shuttle, do you mean instant reverse with 2 foot pedals for direction changes or manual shuttle transmission with a lever?

Yes that is correct, two pedals on for forward and the other for reverse. And they also reverse the pto.

You may be right but I have had two different Massey shops rebuild the shuttle shift twice and I am still without a tractor.

I will try to find a talented mechanic, with your feed back. Trouble is I live in a very remote area, but with recommendations I would be willing to haul it to a major city.

I have a 30B tractor loader backhoe with the 2 peddle shuttle. I've never had a minutes trouble with it. I have a pressure guage to watch the psi on the shuttle clutches, if it were to run under 150psi i would shut her down and find out what's up. Also if you are using anything other than 821 oil, you will kill it really fast.

MF used the instant reverse trans. in many different machines because it is an excellent transmission.
