Have any of you guys installed an AC 'B' wide front on the front of a WC? If so, do you have any pics you can post? What do you use for steering, rack and pinion or a gear assy?

Just got home with my front end yesterday and starting brainstorming, need some ideas please.

thanks,

Andy

The WC is a pretty heavy tractor to put on a little B wishbone axle. Would look funny.

To me that sounds like a recipe for disaster and a big bunch of broken parts and maybe a dead person

Real funny when the front of a 3300 lb tractor creams into the ground wearing a front axle from a 2200 lb tractor.

I have seen pulling tractors that are a bunch heaver on the front than a WC with a lot lighter fronts than the B wishbone. They had weights hanging way out in front on top of that. The wishbone will bend before it will break and if your afraid of bending you could weld a tie rod under the arch. It is steel not cast iron.

I built a light front for a WC but only used B spindles. Take out all the old steering down to framerails. Weld in 2 pieces of channel about 3 in. apart. Put a swivel pin between them. Build a triangular frame down to desired height & width. Weld on pipe to fit the B spindles. Drill & tap pipes for grease zerks. Use a rack & pinion for a dune buggy-much cheaper than car. I thought it was too hard steering so put a steering quickener for race car in the steering rod turned around backward. BTW 5 bolt aluminum wheels fit a B hub perfect. I built mine mostly out of aluminum & lost about 150 lbs. I've pulled up to 5500 w/ 16.9-38's on with no front end problems. Don't have any pics but hope this helps. Good luck.

thanks for the reply, did you run the steering shaft in the same location, down the right side between the engine and frame?

thanks for the reply, I did not know it was steel, that makes me feel better about welding on it, yes I plan to weld in tabs to bolt in a cross brace and possibly weld tabs to change the trailing arms.

Yes I did, I took off the square block the rod goes through. Made a guide above the U-joint like a styled WC. Turn the shaft to the center of tractor. Put on another U-joint then weld another guide to the bottom of the motor mount angle iron. Then on to rack & pinion. I had already replaced the steering rod w/ high strength tubing which probably made it easier. Doing that loses about 20 lbs. Those rods are HEAVY. Hope this helps.
