anyone got a way to dry/store sunflower heads so that I can set them out in the winter for birds? Mice destroy them in pole barn, tried stringing them up, cumbersome...about 40-50 of them

I just put them into a couple of cheap steel garbage cans with lids. I just take the cans out and harvest directly into the cans. I then store them in my garage. I do tape the lids down now. Just a strip of duct tape. I had one lid accidentally get bumped off years ago. We where invaded by mice in the house before I found their food source.
