Looking at a Ford 2000 diesel - not sure of year. 8 and 2 transmission, loader on it.1600 hours on it. Hour meter may not be working. Not beat up, seems to run good. Anything to watch out for? Any common problems with these?

Has power steering - decent rubber - worst leak seems to be from under tranny - other than that for its age seems fairly straight. Thanks

I have a 2000D 4 cyl, simple tranny pto, 4 speed, no PS. Is a '63 model with 3500 hrs prooof meter still working, all original. Some seal leakage between compartments, but nothing worth tearing into. Very reliable and easy to use tractor. The 8/2 would be really slick as would a live PTO, but this works ok. I did repaint it. Bought it about 10 years ago for $3500 delivered.

If yours is a 3 cyl, I have a '65 3000D with the 6/2, live pto and aftermarket hyd outlet. Same with it. I think the hours on it are up around 4500 and no leaks between fluid chambers.

Both tractors are misers with fuel, easy to use and extremely reliable.

Leak from under tranny could be a couple of things. Could be the drain plug is leaking. Could also be that the rear seal of the engine or the input shaft seal of the transmission, or both, are leaking into the bell housing and dripping out the weep hole, if there is one on that model, or from the bottom seem between the trans and engine.

Ford used the same weep hole with the cotter pin in it from 1939 all the way through 1983 that I know of. Probably beyond.
I agree the leak is either the rear main seal on the engine and/or the input shaft seal/s to the tranny.
Those are great small tractors.
