135 rings and liners again

Referring to a post below. What is the recieved wisdom of just replacing the rings assuming that upon stripping the liners and pistons look OK.
I know that rings are within my capabilities but my shed is a bit limited in the high tech department and I am wary of liners.

Hi,
A bit of a difficult decision to make here. Its always best to renew the liners if you can especially if you can feel the wear step in the liners. With worn liners there is always the danger of the lip cracking which will lead to gasket failure.
You won't really know until you fit a new ring into the worn bore and measure the gap. If over the maximum tolerance it will undoubtedly improve the compression but that's all. Next check how much clearance there is between the top new top rings and the piston grooves. Again you will lose compression and have the potential for ring breakage.
Rings should be available for a worn bore. These have a notch cut out on the upper edge of the ring to accommodate the wear step in the liner.
You would also have to remove any glazing from the old liners.
The 135 152 engine is a straightforward engine to replace the liners on. They can easily be done with the block in situ.
You are welcome to borrow my puller if you would like to. There has been mention of running weld around the liners to remove them. I would have to say that I have never tried this and I'm not sure that I'd want to. I have always had the puller or when the block was removed, a 50 ton press..
